Human Centric Design

A Design Focussed on Humans

It has been proved by researches within the concept of Human Centric Lighting® that the visual, psychological and biological effects of light on people make positive contributions to human life. However, when these factors related to light are not taken into consideration and the places that need lighting are illuminated only by providing certain brightness levels, on the contrary, the effects of light on humans may turn negative. In summary, the light has to be qualified from now on.

Therefore, when designing a system that in comply with Human Centric Lighting® concept, the idea beyond providing energy efficiency is to create some benefits to people at first. At the same time, the positive effects of the light used in the right colors and in the right amount, as well as the possible negative effects that may occur in the opposite use, are taken into consideration. For example, using cold tones at home right before going to bed in the evening or using warm white light in the workplace at work can have the opposite effect on people's circadian rhythms.

The correct use of Human Centric Lighting® solutions provides positive effects on people in a very short time. Using white light throughout the day to support concentration in workplaces and schools can have an activating effect in a short time. With a similar logic, the use of warm white light can quickly soothe and relax when students are restless and tired in the classroom. For the proper use of the Human Centric Lighting® concept to use these features correctly, the users of the system should be informed in detail and correctly about the purpose, function and possible effects of this system.

A Multidimensional and Interdisciplinary Design

The process of designing Human Centric Lighting consists of an interdisciplinary interaction process where different factors such as architecture, electronics, optics, psychology and biology are taken into account together. Apart from combining all these factors correctly and informing people, it is also necessary to act in compliance with current legislation and standards regarding lighting. Therefore, in lighting designs, all role players, including technical planners and users, are coordinated from a holistic and interdisciplinary perspective.

Light in the same color tone and amount affects us differently at different times. For example, the light tone, which is close to natural daylight, provides a different warning system for us in the evening and at night than in the daytime. Lighting Design Team of LAMP 83 aims to provide long-termed and successful work, by establishing the connections between the visual, psychological and physiological effects and the time-dependent effects of ligh to create its designs in a way to provide the highest efficiency. In the design phase, long-term and efficient work is achieved by managing the light with the right scenarios and automation, also considering the economic life and the purpose of use of the space.

Benefits of the Human Centric Lighting Concept® to Designers and Users

It is seen that the Human Centric Lighting® concept, also considered as the light technology of the future, gains more and more value for the lighting designers, by looking at the visual, psychological and biological benefits that it creates on the users, also by the added value provided throughout the project and with the prestige it brings to the lighting designers.

A lighting designer also evaluates ergonomic, psychological and biological criterias by considering the people who use the space, the entrepreneurs who own the space and the parameters such as purpose of use, duration of use, daylight condition, control technology and other user-specific requirements while working on the Human Centric Lighting® concept. The designer applies the concept to achieve the highest efficiency with the holistic understanding developed by considering all these issues.
